Acrylic retarder delays the drying of acrylic paint. You simply mix it into the paint before applying it to your board or canvas.
Acrylic Retarder:
The drying time can be increased by up to 20% and it will evaporate completely from the paint. It can also be thinned with water but the ratio should not be more than 5% acrylic retarder to paint. The reason you may want to delay your drying time is to give you more time to work into your paints. Acrylic dries quite quickly so when you are colour mixing to avoid wastage, the acrylic retarder leaves you much more time to mix up colours and use them on your painting.
